The Grant Community School Collaborative is governed by a Board of Directors whose members represent our community: Members are affiliated with Neighborhood Business, Higher Education, City Government, Public School, Parents, and Involved Community Members. The GCSC Board is advised by a Family Advisory Council and Youth Council whose membership is open to all Grant-Nettleton families.
The Grant Community School Collaborative (GCSC) was formed in 1997 when representatives of five East Hillside organizations attended the first in a three-year series of workshops sponsored by MN Department of Education entitled Building Collective Community Leadership. It was the beginning of a journey into applying best practices to strengthen academic, cultural, and social assets of neighborhood youth and families. Now in its 14th year of providing innovative Out-of School-Time and Family Events, the Grant Community School Collaborative has joined with the YMCA and Men as Peacemakers to serve over 300 children and their families at the Nettleton-Grant School-Neighborhood site.
The Grant Community School Collaborative is a regional leader in the movement to create Full Service Community Schools serving children and families holistically to support academic achievement, well-being, and success in the many facets of their lives.
Our vision for youth and families of the Hillside Communities is to live in thriving, stable, and safe neighborhoods.
Our mission is to foster strong partnerships that expand opportunities for Youth Development, school, family and community involvement, promoting life-long learning, and appreciation of our diversity.
